The service

What Is Metalwork & Ironwork Blast Cleaning?

The controlled removal of rust, mill scale, old paint and corrosion from ferrous metalwork using abrasive media at pressures matched to the substrate. Done properly, the metal is left at bright-metal Sa 2½ or Sa 3 finish — ready for a new coating to actually bond, rather than flake off in a year.

What We Clean

Wrought Iron Gates & Railings

Period and modern. See our wrought iron restoration page.

Structural Steel & Metalwork

Mill, factory and regeneration project steelwork. See structural steel.

Agricultural & Industrial Metalwork

Tractors, trailers, plant, farm gates, machinery — stripped back and ready for repaint.

Why Ironwork Needs a Different Approach to Stone or Brick

Stone and brick want the gentlest method that removes the coating. Ironwork wants exactly the opposite — a controlled abrasive that removes every trace of rust, mill scale and old paint, leaving a defined surface profile that a new coating can bite into. Different kit, different media, different mindset.

Rust & Corrosion Removal Before Repainting / Powder Coating

We work closely with local powder-coaters and blacksmiths. Where possible we blast and hand over the same day, so nothing has time to re-oxidise before the new coating goes on.

Areas We Cover

Combo pages for your city: Manchester, Bolton.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you blast clean rusted iron gates before repainting?

Yes — this is one of our most common metalwork jobs. We take the ironwork back to bright metal at a proper Sa 2½ or Sa 3 finish, so the new coating actually bonds instead of flaking off in a year.

Do you work with powder coaters/blacksmiths after blasting?

Yes. We have working relationships with several powder-coaters and blacksmiths across the region and, where possible, we blast and hand over the same day so nothing has time to re-oxidise before the new coating goes on.

Is this different from sandblasting stone or brick?

Completely. Stone and brick want the gentlest possible method. Ironwork wants a firm controlled abrasive that removes every trace of rust and old paint and leaves a surface profile a new coating can bite into. Different kit, different media, different mindset.
